The Short Version

If you loved Quicksilver, you probably want more enemies to lovers, a dark and brooding hero, and a heroine who talks back. Here are six romantasy books to read next, no spoilers.

A Court Of Thorns And Roses

Number one: A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas, from twenty fifteen. A human huntress, Feyre, is dragged into a faerie realm after she kills a wolf in the woods.

It’s the series that started the modern romantasy boom, and Quicksilver owes it a lot: a human heroine, a fae world at war, and a mating bond. If you only pick one, pick this, and keep going to book two.

Fourth Wing

Number two: Fourth Wing, by Rebecca Yarros, from twenty twenty three. Violet Sorrengail is forced into a brutal war college for dragon riders, where everyone wants her dead, including Xaden.

It has the same fast, funny voice and the same enemies to lovers tension, with dragons instead of fae.

From Blood And Ash

Number three: From Blood and Ash, by Jennifer L. Armentrout, from twenty twenty. Poppy is the Maiden, chosen by the gods and kept untouched, until her new guard, Hawke, starts breaking all the rules.

If you liked the vampire elements and the dark secrets in Quicksilver, this series has plenty of both.

The Cruel Prince

Number four: The Cruel Prince, by Holly Black, from twenty eighteen. Jude, a human girl raised in the High Court of Faerie, fights for power against the cruelest prince of all, Cardan.

It’s young adult, with no explicit content, but it’s the best enemies to lovers fae story out there, and the political scheming is far sharper.

Kingdom Of The Wicked

Number five: Kingdom of the Wicked, by Kerri Maniscalco, from twenty twenty. Emilia teams up with Wrath, one of the princes of hell, to find her twin sister’s killer.

If Carrion and Fisher’s banter was your favorite part, this one has a demon prince with just as much attitude.

Lightlark

Number six: Lightlark, by Alex Aster, from twenty twenty two. Every hundred years, rulers of six cursed realms gather on an island to compete in a deadly game to break their curses.

It’s a fast read with a tournament plot, if you want something lighter after six hundred pages of Quicksilver.

How To Choose

So, how to choose? Want the classic? A Court of Thorns and Roses. Want dragons? Fourth Wing. Want vampires and secrets? From Blood and Ash. Want brilliant politics? The Cruel Prince. Want a demon prince? Kingdom of the Wicked. Want a fast tournament? Lightlark.
