The Short Version
If you just finished A Court of Thorns and Roses and you’re wondering what comes next, this one’s for you. Here’s the whole series in order, what’s coming out this month, and what happened to the TV show. Spoilers for book one only.
The short version: there are five books out, plus a sixth arriving on October twenty seventh, twenty twenty six, and a seventh in January. The Hulu show is dead, but Sarah J. Maas says she owns the rights again.
The Reading Order
Read them in publication order. Book one, A Court of Thorns and Roses, from twenty fifteen. Book two, A Court of Mist and Fury, twenty sixteen. Book three, A Court of Wings and Ruin, twenty seventeen.
Then A Court of Frost and Starlight, a short novella from twenty eighteen. And book five, A Court of Silver Flames, from twenty twenty one.
Don’t Skip The Novella
A lot of people skip Frost and Starlight because it’s short and quiet. It’s a holiday story set after the war in book three.
Don’t skip it. It sets up the next book’s main characters, and Silver Flames opens right where it leaves off.
Where Book One Leaves Us
Quick reminder of where book one ends. Feyre is High Fae now, and back at the Spring Court with Tamlin. Amarantha is dead.
But Feyre can’t forget the faeries she killed Under the Mountain. And she still owes Rhysand one week every month, for the rest of her life.
What To Expect From Book Two
No book two spoilers, I promise. But here’s what I’ll say. A Court of Mist and Fury is the book most fans call their favorite, and it’s the reason the series blew up.
It’s longer, darker and much more romantic. And it changes how you see a lot of book one. If book one was just okay for you, give book two a real chance.
Who The Later Books Follow
Books one to three are mostly told by Feyre. Book five switches to her sister Nesta, and to Cassian, one of Rhysand’s warriors.
Expect more spice as the series goes on. Silver Flames is the most explicit book of the five.
Books Six And Seven
Now the news. In March twenty twenty six, Maas announced two new books. In August she revealed the titles.
Book six, A Court of Splintered Harmony, comes out October twenty seventh, twenty twenty six. Book seven, A Court of Forgotten Melody, comes out January twelfth, twenty twenty seven. Both are labeled The Valkyrie Cycle.
One Big Story
Maas has said these books are meant to be read as one massive story, told in four parts. Six and seven cover the first parts, and a final part is still to come.
She hasn’t said whose story it is. The Valkyrie name points to the warrior women from Silver Flames, but that’s fan theory, not official.
The TV Show
What about a screen version? In twenty twenty one, Hulu announced a series with Ronald D. Moore. He left the project in twenty twenty four, and in early twenty twenty five, Hulu officially dropped it.
In twenty twenty six, Maas said the rights are back with her, and reports say she’s talking to other studios. As of October twenty twenty six, nothing new is official.
