Welcome
Whether you’re reading A Court of Silver Flames, by Sarah J. Maas, with a book club or with friends online, these questions will help you dig into Nesta’s story.
There are twelve questions in five groups. The first four groups avoid the ending, and the last group is full of spoilers, so I’ll warn you before we get there. This is an adult book, so please be mindful of your group.
Nesta
Question one. Nesta starts the book angry, grieving, and pushing everyone away. Did you find her difficult to like, and did that change?
Question two. The book suggests that her behavior comes from trauma, not from a bad character. How well do you think it handles that idea?
Healing
Question three. Nesta’s recovery is slow, with setbacks. Is that more realistic than a fast change, and did it work for you as a reader?
Question four. Training with Cassian and working in the library give Nesta structure. Why do you think routine and effort help her so much?
Friendship
Question five. Nesta’s friendship with Gwyn and Emerie is a major part of the book. What does each friend give her that her family cannot?
Question six. The book celebrates sisters in arms, as well as sisters by blood. How does it compare the two kinds of bond?
Nesta and Cassian
Question seven. The romance builds slowly, and it begins with a lot of conflict. Did their dynamic feel earned to you?
Question eight. The book uses the mate bond as a big part of the story. Does it add to the romance, or does it make things too easy?
Spoiler Questions
Now a warning. These last questions give away the ending, so if you have not finished the book, pause here.
Question nine. In the Blood Rite, Nesta holds the line so that Gwyn and Emerie can win. Why does that moment matter so much for her arc?
Question ten. Nesta chooses to give back her power in order to save Feyre, Rhysand, and the baby. Was that the right choice, and what does it say about her?
Question eleven. Nesta says I love you to Feyre for the first time. How did that scene land for you?
Question twelve. The book ends with threats still out there, like Koschei. Which story thread are you most curious about next?
Wrap Up
If your group only has time for one question, pick this one: what does the book say about healing, and who we need around us to do it?
Share your answers in the comments, and thanks for reading along. See you next time.
