The Series Order
If you’ve been wondering what order to read the Knockemout books in, and whether the TV series is real, this one’s for you. Here is the Things We Never Got Over series in order, as of October twenty twenty six.
Book one is Things We Never Got Over. Book two is Things We Hide From the Light. Book three is Things We Left Behind. And yes, there’s a TV series on the way. A quick note on spoilers: I’ll tell you which couple stars in each book, which is a light spoiler for how book one sets things up, but I won’t reveal any twists.
Book One
Things We Never Got Over, published in twenty twenty two, is where it starts. It stars Naomi Witt and Knox Morgan. Naomi is a planner who walks out of her own wedding, drives to Knockemout, Virginia to rescue her estranged twin sister, and ends up looking after an eleven year old niece she never knew about.
Knox is the grumpy, tattooed local who owns the bar and the barbershop and keeps showing up to help, whether she wants him to or not. It’s funny, very spicy and full of heart. It’s also a complete love story. It wraps up Naomi and Knox, so it works even if you stop there.
Book Two
Book two is Things We Hide From the Light, published in early twenty twenty three. It follows Nash Morgan, Knox’s brother, who is the town’s police chief. Nash is the nice brother, the one with the easy grin who plays by the rules.
His love interest is Lina, short for Angelina, a confident woman who has history with the Morgan family and sees right through him. According to the publisher’s description, she is also hiding the real reason she’s in town. If you liked Nash in book one, this is his story.
Book Three
Book three is Things We Left Behind, also published in twenty twenty three. It follows Lucian Rollins and Sloane. Lucian is the third member of the childhood trio with the Morgan brothers, a polished and powerful man who left town and built a career in politics.
Sloane is the town librarian with the pink streaked hair. In book one they can barely stand to be in the same room, and nobody knows why. That mystery is what book three is built on. One listing describes it as including a steamy one night stand. I haven’t read it, so I won’t say more.
What Ties the Books Together
What makes this a series and not three random romances is the town. Knockemout has a bar called Honky Tonk, a barbershop, a pizza place with a gossip for a waitress, a library that acts like a community center, and a creek behind the big house where half the family dinners happen.
The same people turn up in every book. The grandmother, the dogs, the bikers, the cafe owners and the bar staff all keep their jokes and their nosy opinions. If you fall for the place in book one, you get to keep visiting it. That is the real pull of the series.
Do You Need To Read Them In Order
Short answer: yes, I’d read them in publication order. Each book has a new couple at its center, so you could technically jump in anywhere. But the same town, the same friends and the same slow burning secrets run through all three.
Book one sets up the Morgan family history, the feud between the brothers, the Lucian and Sloane mystery and the mess Naomi’s sister leaves behind. Later books pay off those threads. Starting with book two would spoil book one, and you’d miss why the town loves the people in it.
Is There a Fourth Book
Here’s the careful part. As of October twenty twenty six, every source I checked lists three books in the Knockemout series. Reports about the TV show also call the first novel the start of a trilogy.
I did not find an official announcement of a fourth Knockemout novel. If that changes, I’ll update this video. At the end of book one, the author does mention a bonus epilogue for Knox and Naomi that you can get from her website, and the book also points readers to her standalone, Pretend You’re Mine.
The TV Series
Now the big news. Reportedly, an Amazon adaptation was first mentioned in September twenty twenty five. Then on June eleventh, twenty twenty six, Prime Video announced it had ordered a series based on Things We Never Got Over.
Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, the creators of the show Ringer, wrote the pilot and are the showrunners. Lucy Score is a co executive producer. It is a series, not a movie, and it adapts the first book. Search results for a Things We Never Got Over movie are really about this show.
The Cast
In September twenty twenty six, casting was reported. Molly Griggs is set to play both Naomi and her twin sister Tina, which is a big job, because the twin switch is a major piece of the story.
Matthew Noszka is cast as Knox Morgan, and Tommy Martinez as Nash Morgan. More cast members were reported by Deadline, but I’m sticking to the three leads, which two outlets reported. The show is described as being in production. As of October twenty twenty six, there is no release date.
What To Expect From the Show
My opinion, not news. A TV version gets a lot of room to spend time in the town, so I’d expect more of the supporting cast, like the cafe owner, the librarian and the Honky Tonk staff, who are the best part of the book.
The harder part is tone. The book is very explicit and very sweary, and Prime Video may soften or reshape that. And the finale of the book is a big action sequence. I’m curious how they’ll handle both. Treat all of this as speculation until we have a trailer.
More Lucy Score Books
If you finish Knockemout and want more, Lucy Score has a long backlist. The author’s own list in the back of the book shows standalones like Pretend You’re Mine, Finally Mine, Protecting What’s Mine, Mr. Fixer Upper, Rock Bottom Girl and The Worst Best Man.
There’s also the Bootleg Springs series, which starts with Whiskey Chaser, the Blue Moon small town romance series, and a series about a character named Riley Thorn, starting with Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door. I haven’t read those, so I can’t speak to the spice level.
Quick Answers
Let me run through the questions I see most. Is it a standalone? No, it is book one of the Knockemout series. Is there a Things We Never Got Over movie? No, there is a TV series, and it is in production. Is it finished? The three books are published, and I found no announced fourth.
Is every book as spicy as the first? I can only vouch for book one, which I’d rate about four out of five peppers. Do I need to read the author’s other series first? No. Knockemout is separate from Bootleg Springs and Blue Moon, so you can start here. Is it a love triangle? Not in any way that lasts. The brothers bicker, but each book belongs to one couple, and each one ends happily, which is why many readers call them comfort reads.
Where To Start
My advice is simple. Start with book one. It has the strongest setup, the most memorable kid, and the most Knockemout humor, and it tells you quickly whether the style works for you. If the swearing and the spice are too much, the rest of the series won’t be different.
If you love it, go on to book two for Nash and Lina, then book three. If you’re waiting for the TV series, read the first book now, so you can compare the cast when the show arrives.
Where To Get It
Links to all three Knockemout books and the audiobooks are in the description, along with every book I mentioned. I also have a spoiler free review with the spicy chapters, a characters video, and an ending explained.
Tell me in the comments: which couple are you most excited to read, Nash and Lina or Lucian and Sloane? Thanks for watching, and subscribe for more book news.
