Tell Me Lies

by Carola Lovering

Lucy Albright falls for charming Stephen DeMarco in college and spends four years believing the next version of him will be the real one.

★★★★☆ 4 / 5

A compulsive, uncomfortable novel about a toxic first love, told in alternating chapters by the girl who keeps forgiving and the boy who explains exactly how he manipulates her. The prose is plain and some secondary characters are thin, but the structure and the last reveal land. Four out of five. Content notes: cheating, drug use, an eating disorder, depression, a fatal car crash.
